Inside Terminal Warehouse in New York, four sculptures by Walter De Maria occupied the space while Solange’s recorded voice entered the soundtrack with an idea about discovering what is “100% necessary.” It was a fitting opening for a collection built around reduction. A blazer. A white tee. A pair of jeans. A narrow skirt. A trench. A slip dress. Familiar pieces became the entire vocabulary of Calvin Klein SS27, and Leoni spent the runway proving just how much can happen inside a very small fashion language.

For Leoni, that restraint has deep roots in the house.

Calvin Klein SS27 Went Back to 1976

Calvin Klein SS27 brought Leoni back toward 1976, a period she has repeatedly studied while rebuilding Calvin Klein Collection. Around that time, Calvin Klein was establishing many of the ideas that later became central to the house: American ease, denim, simple tailoring, and clothes whose sensuality came from proximity to the body.

Leoni has spent extensive time inside the Calvin Klein archive on Long Island, looking through garments, imagery, and even unused photographs. Her fascination with the material has gradually shifted from direct quotation toward something more internal. Calvin Klein SS27 feels like the point where the archive has become instinct.

Her own design process mirrors the collection’s philosophy. Leoni has spoken about developing a garment and then repeatedly moving backward through it, taking elements away until every surviving detail has a reason to remain.

That method explains the remarkable plainness of the runway at first glance. Cotton blazers, washed denim, silk jersey tops, and slim skirts hardly sound theatrical on paper. On the body, every centimetre becomes visible because there is so little visual noise competing for attention.

Georgia O’Keeffe Had Something to Do With It

One of the most interesting references behind Calvin Klein SS27 came from Georgia O’Keeffe.

Leoni looked at the artist’s disciplined approach to personal dress and her preference for a consistent wardrobe built from carefully chosen essentials. O’Keeffe understood the power of repetition long before personal uniform became a modern fashion phrase. Her clothes helped create an instantly recognizable image without needing constant reinvention.

That idea travels directly into Calvin Klein SS27.

High-waisted straight-leg jeans appeared in extremely pale washes, some carrying a subtle crease down the leg. Cotton blazers brought everyday American fabric into sharp tailoring. Gray-toned plaid trenches gave outerwear a restrained graphic presence. Slim skirts, uncomplicated trousers, and fine silk-knit jersey tees created an entire daytime wardrobe from pieces most people already recognize.

Leoni then started repeating them.

A silk jersey tee could appear in one context and return later with a completely different role. Bandeau tops were layered over high-neck shirts and then reappeared with coordinated skirts. Familiar pieces kept circulating through new combinations.

The repetition was deliberate. Minimalism here became rhythm.

One White Slip Dress Held a Clever Secret

Among the strongest pieces in Calvin Klein SS27 was also one of the simplest: a white bias-cut silk slip dress. Leoni used both the matte and glossy sides of the same silk, creating shifts in surface and light without introducing additional decoration. A single textile supplied its own contrast. The dress looked almost effortless, while the material decision quietly carried the complexity.

The runway lives largely inside pale, muted territory: washed blues, chalky whites, cool grays, soft neutrals and black used with precision.

That near-bleached effect gives the collection a distinctly dry, sun-faded quality. The gray plaid outerwear introduces one of the few stronger graphic moments, yet the pattern stays subdued enough to sit comfortably inside the wider palette. Black works as an anchor, sharpening the soft colors around it and giving certain looks a more severe presence.

The collection starts to feel modular, almost architectural. Leoni has described repetition as central to her idea of minimalism, and Spring 2027 turned that thinking into a full runway system.

Her version of minimalism also has plenty of confidence. Leoni has previously said she is comfortable being called a minimalist and sees minimalism as capable of feeling loud.

Walter De Maria’s sculptures brought an austere, monumental presence into the space. His work has long explored scale, geometry and reduction, making him an unusually appropriate companion for Leoni’s approach to Calvin Klein.

Then Solange gave the runway its conceptual voice. Her spoken contribution revolved around the idea of determining what is truly necessary.

Calvin Klein Collection Is Finding Its Center

Spring 2027 also marks an important point in Veronica Leoni’s tenure.

This is her fourth runway collection for Calvin Klein Collection. Her debut reintroduced Collection after the runway line’s long pause. Spring 2026 explored New York dressing, American ease and the body. Fall 2026 dug deeper into late-1970s and early-1980s Calvin Klein, including archival denim, body culture and the house’s erotic minimalism.

Behind the restraint of Calvin Klein SS27 sits a much larger rebuilding project. Veronica Leoni has described the revival of Collection plainly: “We’re starting from scratch again.” After more than six years away from the runway, Calvin Klein is reconstructing its luxury tier through selective distribution, dedicated flagship presence, bespoke celebrity dressing and a new generation of high-end product. Collection now operates as the brand’s creative laboratory, the place where Leoni establishes the silhouettes, materials and attitude that can eventually influence the much larger Calvin Klein business.

That makes her fourth runway especially significant. Calvin Klein generated more than $900 million in quarterly revenue in Q2 2026, yet Collection itself is still being carefully re-established inside that global machine. Calvin Klein SS27 therefore carries two jobs at once: define what modern Calvin Klein luxury looks like and remind the wider brand exactly what its creative center should be.
