Conner Ives SS27: Across the Pond and Into the Myth

With Across the Pond, Conner Ives turns his first New York runway into a study of distance, taste and American identity.

At The Grill inside the Seagram Building, Conner Ives came back to New York carrying America as a memory.

The room already had its own mythology: power lunches, mahogany, mid-century glamour and the particular Manhattan confidence that turns eating lunch into a social performance. For Ives, who left the United States for Central Saint Martins and built his label in London, it became an almost cinematic location for his first New York Fashion Week show. His parents were there. His former high-school art teacher was there. Around them sat the city that had lived inside his work for years, finally receiving the collection in person.

He called it Across the Pond, a title that makes geography sound charmingly casual for something emotionally complicated. After more than a decade in London, Conner Ives now sees America through distance, nostalgia, affection and the editing eye of someone who has learned exactly which memories deserve to survive.

The 44-look collection feels like a suitcase unpacked after a very long trip.

Conner Ives Comes Home With an Edited Version of America

For Conner Ives, America has always existed through characters.

A socialite. A fisherman. A Wall Street man. A girl in an old evening dress. An equestrian. A woman who knows exactly how much glamour a restaurant reservation deserves.

Spring 2027 gathers those archetypes into one highly personal American mythology. Truman Capote’s Black and White Ball hovers somewhere in the atmosphere, while The Grill evokes the corporate masculinity of another Manhattan era. Jonathan Glazer’s Birth, with Nicole Kidman moving through an eerily immaculate New York, also enters the visual research.

Ives has spoken about admiring the idea of the lifestyle designer, citing figures such as Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren: designers whose clothes construct an entire environment around the wearer. That ambition feels especially relevant here. Across the Pond moves beyond a collection of beautiful vintage-informed pieces and starts asking what the complete Conner Ives world might contain.

His America becomes elegant, camp, romantic, slightly absurd and deeply conscious of its own mythology. One of the collection’s strangest detours becomes one of its most beautiful. Ives researched the American Museum of Fly Fishing, pulling fish, rivers and outdoor Americana into a wardrobe already occupied by cocktail dresses and society characters.

The reference moves through watercolor fish scales, hand-painted surfaces and chiffon elements resembling delicate gills. One skirt turns marine anatomy into decoration; another evening look catches the iridescence of scales. A saturated blue bias-cut dress carries dimensional water lilies across its surface, giving the impression of a woman walking through the reflection of a pond.

The Conner Ives Woman Has Learned the Art of Dressing Up

Spring 2027 gives the Conner Ives silhouette a polished confidence.

Satin cocktail dresses skim the body with a languid glamour, while bias cutting allows fabric to fall almost liquidly around the figure. Capris sharpen the line through the leg. Embroidered dresses carry a slightly 1950s propriety that styling quickly loosens. Vintage robes become languorous evening pieces, and embellished denim brings everyday America into the same world as formal dressing.

The proportions reveal a designer increasingly comfortable with elegance.

There is something almost Halston-like in the long, fluid pieces, while other looks carry the compact glamour of old New York cocktail dressing. Ives keeps them contemporary through unexpected fabric combinations, exposed skin, eccentric accessories, and his instinct for making clothing feel found, collected and lived with.

Conner Ives has built much of his practice around deadstock and repurposed garments, yet the upcycling rarely announces itself as an environmental message on the body. The fabric becomes valuable through transformation and taste. That quietness may be one of his smartest signatures: sustainability disappears into desirability.

Gieves & Hawkes Gives the Men a Proper Entrance

Ives worked with Gieves & Hawkes on Savile Row tailoring, creating suits that connect London craftsmanship with the power-lunch masculinity embedded in The Grill. The men appear immaculate, slightly louche and faintly suspicious, as though they have arrived directly from a private club with stories they intend to keep to themselves.

This collaboration also captures the collection’s transatlantic structure beautifully.

The suits therefore become physical evidence of the designer’s own biography. His understanding of American masculinity has passed through years of living within British fashion culture and returns to New York with Savile Row inside the seams. Conner Ives has long built convincing female characters; menswear creates another cast of people capable of inhabiting the same world.

Conner Ives Has Turned New York Into Part of the Business Plan

Vanessa Reid’s styling plays an essential role in keeping all this nostalgia alive in the present.

Formal dresses meet pieces with a thrifted ease. Rugby shirts enter the conversation. Animal print appears with little concern for restraint. Fur-trimmed robes carry an old-world decadence that feels knowingly excessive. Jimmy Choo footwear sharpens the fantasy, while the casting gives each look the personality of someone who has already lived a full day before stepping onto the runway.

Then comes the slogan tee.

“Bring Back Shame” follows the cultural phenomenon of Ives’s earlier Protect the Dolls shirt and brings his dry social wit directly onto the chest. The humor gives Conner Ives another register. He can indulge in satin, embroidery and society glamour while maintaining a slightly irreverent distance from the world he is dressing.

Taste feels strongest here when it also contains a raised eyebrow.

The United States has long supplied Conner Ives with both inspiration and customers, and Spring 2027 formalises that relationship by bringing the runway directly to New York. Private clients in the city have supported the label for years, while relationships with retailers, including Moda Operandi have helped turn cultural visibility into measurable demand.

The brand is also widening its wholesale reach, with Net-a-Porter joining the retail network as the company enters another stage of international distribution.

That makes Across the Pond operationally intelligent as well as emotionally satisfying. Showing in New York places Conner Ives physically in front of a market already responding to the clothes, while London remains the studio base that shapes his production methods, styling network and fashion education.

The business mirrors the collection: American desire, British infrastructure and a designer moving fluently between both.

He left America to learn how to make fashion. Spring 2027 shows Conner Ives returning with the freedom to turn America into whatever he remembers it being.
