At Christopher Esber, a cuff, belt or stud can carry as much weight as the garment around it. For Spring/Summer 2027, that instinct becomes the starting point for a collection presented inside an underground Paris theatre, beneath an oval skylight and over a leopard-print carpet that immediately sets a mood of controlled excess.

From there, Christopher Esber stretches familiar menswear codes into stranger territory, shifting proportions, relocating details and turning decoration into structure while cutouts, sheer jersey and precise draping keep the body constantly in view.

Across 47 looks, tailoring gradually gives way to lingerie lines, fractured leather, glossy collage surfaces and metallic lace, allowing each new material to alter the rhythm of the collection without losing its focus on fit, movement and physical tension. The result feels sensual, tactile and carefully engineered, with every experiment ultimately returning to the body.

Ornament Becomes Architecture

The collection’s central idea appears immediately in the tailoring. Christopher Esber looked to Elvis Presley’s early 1950s wardrobe, especially elongated suits, flared trousers and studded belts, translating that rock-and-roll language through proportion.

Jackets gain long torsos and high pockets, while flared trousers give the lower body a sweeping line. Original unused studs from the 1950s appear on belts and jackets, giving the clothes an authentic period fragment while shaping seams and closures with physical weight.

Cuffs multiply along sleeves, belts shift away from the natural waist, and neckerchiefs turn into structural forms. One scarf rises into sculptural peaks across a bustier, another drapes across an asymmetric gilet, while a metal version becomes a choker against geometric ceramic-coated lace.

The silhouette moves through elongated tailoring, high-slit A-line skirts, sheath tops, narrow body-skimming dresses, low-slung skirts, cropped latticed miniskirts and long column jersey gowns. Christopher Esber uses these shapes as frameworks for displacement, allowing a detail associated with finishing to become the element that holds the garment together.

Lace, Leather and Lingerie Are Rebuilt

Material experimentation gives Christopher Esber SS27 much of its energy. Pocket-square motifs are enlarged into geometric lace, then treated with a ceramic coating that gives delicate fabric a firm, architectural surface.

Sheath tops open to reveal fine georgette beneath, while collars and lapels dissolve into abstract lines across tailoring and dresses. Transparent lingerie jersey, bra straps, lace trim and bandeaux trace the body directly, turning underwear construction into graphic composition.

Leather receives an equally transformative treatment. A white sundress is perforated until its surface resembles eyelet, while darker pieces are shredded, fragmented and pieced together again. Metallic turquoise lace floats around the body with a luminous, mineral quality, and gowns are shortened at the front to expose the legs while preserving movement behind. Christopher Esber also revisits the semiprecious hardware that has become one of his signatures, this time using a substantial stack of tiger’s-eye stones to anchor draped jersey.

Artist Anna Stüdeli pushes the collection into stranger territory. Her collages are transferred onto satin-backed PVC for bandeaux, low-slung skirts, shifts and a trench, while selected images are broken into clear resin cabochons and reassembled across garments like puzzles. Eyes, fingernails and sunset scenes appear gradually as the body moves, turning the surface into an image that requires distance and angle to resolve.

Styling Keeps the Body in Focus

The show carries many ideas, yet the styling keeps Christopher Esber’s sensual clarity intact. Ilona Hamer uses oversized belts, metal neck pieces, exposed bra straps and narrow bandeaux to sharpen the body’s outline, while elaborate textures receive clean surrounding layers. The balance lets the eye register cut, proportion and skin before decoration takes over.

Footwear and accessories continue that logic through sleek shapes and sculptural metal details, while beauty remains controlled and polished. Filomena’s makeup for NARS, Scott Sloan’s hair and Jean Baptiste Verguin’s set design support the clothes and keep attention on proportion, cut and material experimentation. Even the leopard carpet functions as a useful counterpoint, injecting a flash of theatricality into a stripped-back underground space.

Three looks also introduce a technical partnership with Unspun through the Climate Pledge Coalition. Christopher Esber experiments with OneWeave 3D weaving, a process capable of producing cloth in seamless tubular forms and reducing cutting waste.

One black trouser look pairs the technology with a sculptural pink scarf-print top and oversized silver buckle, showing how material innovation can enter the collection through a recognizable wardrobe piece as part of the collection’s design language.

Christopher Esber Expands the House Around the Dress

SS27 arrives at a meaningful point in Christopher Esber’s business development. Founded in 2010, the label built its reputation through body-conscious jersey, negative space, cutouts and a precise approach to sensuality, then gradually expanded into tailoring, leather, accessories, swim and technical textile development.

The commercial structure has also been widening. Wholesale remains an important part of the business, supported by a global stockist network, while direct retail has gained a strategic role since the brand opened its first physical retail experiment in Sydney in late 2024. That move signaled a longer-term store strategy and gave Christopher Esber control over how customers encounter the full wardrobe, from dresses to tailoring, shoes, bags and accessories.

Christopher Esber SS27 reflects that same expansion creatively. The collection gives serious space to suiting, leather, experimental lace, outerwear, accessories and 3D weaving, allowing Christopher Esber to move past the slinky dress as the label’s dominant reference point. The growth feels significant because the house preserves its core language of tension, exposure and controlled drape while building a complete product universe around it.

The central proposition this season is simple: ornament can shape structure, technology can enter sensual clothing, and a small detail can redirect an entire garment. As the business broadens, Christopher Esber SS27 shows a designer building the infrastructure of a complete fashion house from the same instinct that first made his work distinctive: precision placed exactly where the body will feel it.
