Cult Gaia SS27: Heaven Fell From the Ceiling

Between the deeply personal designs sat the emotional architecture of Cult Gaia SS27, a collection titled “Behesht,” the Persian word for heaven, shaped by Hekmat’s experience of grief after the death of her grandmother, Mommy Aghdas, earlier in 2026.

Presented in New York on September 9, the collection also marked Hekmat’s second NYFW runway. Cult Gaia had entered the official New York Fashion Week calendar in February 2026 after roughly 14 years of building its universe through sculptural handbags, destination dressing, and wonderfully photogenic objects. Seven months later, the house returned with a runway carrying family memory, Persian identity, growing menswear, and a ceiling full of flowers.

Cult Gaia SS27 Found Heaven Through Grief

“Behesht” gave Hekmat a word for the place she wanted the collection to reach. She described grief as transformative, with sorrow and celebration existing simultaneously, and built that emotional duality directly into the sequence of the show.

The opening chapter stayed around deep olive, black, and structured tailoring. Then the fabrics started speaking. Woven plissé swayed around the legs. Fringe flickered at the hems. Chainmail announced itself through sound. Chiffon floated around the body. Silk eventually carried the illusion of feathers.

The connection to Hekmat’s Persian heritage has already become part of Cult Gaia’s young runway history. Her February NYFW debut honored the women within her Persian community and the generations surrounding her. Cult Gaia SS27 pulled that sentiment directly into the family, placing Mommy Aghdas at the emotional center and using the Persian word “Behesht” as the title.

Hekmat essentially gave emotion a material vocabulary. Grief had olive tailoring. Release had chiffon. Celebration had gold. Heaven had painted silk and pink petals.

The Serious Opening Had a Sculptural Pulse

That opening olive suit immediately showed another side of Cult Gaia’s clothing vocabulary. A puffed shoulder created architecture around the jacket, capri pants exposed the ankle, and the monochromatic color gave the first look a composed presence.

The next olive dress shifted the same mood into movement through woven plissé fabric and a swishing hemline. From the opening minutes, the collection established a fascination with clothes that reveal themselves through motion.

Menswear continued that exploration. Hekmat introduced the category during her first NYFW presentation in February, and Cult Gaia SS27 gave the male wardrobe a distinct personality. A black linen-taille suit appeared boxy and slouchy through the body, carrying the ease already embedded in Cult Gaia’s holiday-minded world. Hekmat has described menswear as a rapidly growing category and the male customer as a new muse.

Then came a piece begging for a second glance: tweed board shorts with fringed hems.

Tweed suddenly found itself in beach territory. The board-short silhouette gave the fabric a sun-soaked attitude, and each stride activated the fringe. Nearby, a plum plissé shirt included its own built-in necktie, folding a familiar menswear symbol directly into the garment.

Cult Gaia has always loved an object with a visual trick. Here, that instinct moved straight into tailoring.

Then the Clothes Started Making Their Own Sound

The gold chainmail skirt deserves star billing.

Its metal construction clinked and clanked as the model walked, giving the garment its own audible presence. Shine caught the eye, movement created sound, and the weight of the material became part of the performance. One skirt suddenly occupied several senses at once.

That sensory quality ran across the collection. Sheer floral chiffon separates brought tropical romance into the middle passage. Gold gladiator sandals pushed the styling toward mythology. Transparent layers allowed skin and fabric to interact as the runway gradually filled with movement and color.

The best pieces seemed happiest in motion. Plissé swished. Fringe shook. Chainmail chimed. Chiffon floated.

Even the casting carried a fresh-season energy. Forty-five of the 51 were recorded as first-time Cult Gaia walkers, giving Hekmat a large group of new faces for her second New York show.

Those Feathers Were Actually Painted Silk

Then Cult Gaia SS27 delivered its finest material illusion.

The finale gowns appeared feathered from the runway. Their plumage came from hand-painted silk that had been dip-dyed to mimic feathers, turning textile treatment into visual sleight of hand. The silk retained its fluidity, allowing every step to animate the painted markings across the body.

Then the ceiling joined the collection.

Real pink flower petals began falling through the room as the gowns passed underneath. Petals landed across the runway, the clothes and the audience, turning “Behesht” into a fully physical scene.

The theatrical payoff worked because every ingredient had already been planted. Olive had established solemnity. Plissé introduced movement. Gold brought radiance. Chiffon created air. Painted silk supplied fantasy. The falling flowers completed Hekmat’s heaven.

Even fashion-week guests found themselves smiling as petals landed around them.

Heaven, apparently, comes with dry cleaning.

Cult Gaia SS27 Landed During a Major Expansion

The intimacy of “Behesht” arrived during an important commercial chapter for the company. Cult Gaia generated approximately $100 million in revenue in 2025, with direct-to-consumer sales accounting for around 70 percent of the business.

Its physical retail world has also grown rapidly. After opening its first permanent Los Angeles store in 2023, Cult Gaia reached seven permanent U.S. locations, alongside seasonal destinations such as Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Ibiza. Expansion plans have included Madison Avenue, Dallas, Dubai Mall and the UAE, with a goal of doubling the store count by 2029.

The runway now sits inside that expansion story.

February 2026 introduced Cult Gaia to the official NYFW calendar and launched menswear on the runway. September delivered a second show, a deeply personal narrative and a fully theatrical finale. The brand famous for the Ark bag and vacation-ready dresses is steadily building an entire fashion-show language around itself.

Pink petals make the final memory wonderfully easy to keep. Olive tailoring had crossed the runway, chainmail had chimed through the room, chiffon had caught the air and painted silk had turned into imaginary feathers. Cult Gaia SS27 transformed family memory, Persian language and grief into a public celebration of beauty and movement. On its second New York runway, Cult Gaia gave “Behesht” a physical form and let heaven fall straight from the ceiling.
