A story can begin with an ordinary memory, a private confession, or an experience that has never found an audience. For Cate Blanchett and UNIQLO, these overlooked narratives are becoming the foundation of Stories She Tells, a new creative program that gives women the opportunity to write their own stories and share them with the world.

UNIQLO x Cate Blanchett's Latest Creative Program
A story can begin with an ordinary memory, a private confession, or an experience that has never found an audience. For Cate Blanchett and UNIQLO, these overlooked narratives are becoming the foundation of Stories She Tells, a new creative program that gives women the opportunity to write their own stories and share them with the world.

On October 29, 2026, UNIQLO introduced the creative program Stories She Tells at the University of Tokyo, marking an ambitious expansion of the Japanese retailer's cultural activities into literary publishing. Developed with Global Brand Ambassador Cate Blanchett, the initiative extends UNIQLO's LifeWear philosophy beyond clothing, recognizing storytelling as another essential form of personal expression.
The center of this creative program lies in the company's first literary magazine, scheduled for autumn 2027. The publication will feature essays selected through an open call, alongside literary contributions and academic research exploring women's experiences.
The University of Tokyo serves as the initiative's first academic partner, with faculty from its Center for Coproduction of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity contributing editorial guidance and research expertise.

Blanchett's involvement extends considerably beyond conventional celebrity endorsement. As chair of the magazine's essay selection committee, the Academy Award-winning actress will help identify emerging female writers whose perspectives deserve wider recognition. Selected contributors will receive mentorship and opportunities to develop their writing, connecting literary talent with UNIQLO's international audience.

The inaugural event brought Blanchett together with Japanese novelist Mieko Kawakami, university representatives, and students for a discussion about women's experiences and the significance of sharing personal narratives.

The gathering concluded with Blanchett reading Clarice Lispector's Belonging, while a book fair featuring more than 130 curated titles encouraged visitors to explore literature by women.
The magazine's first edition will explore the theme of Connection, examining how individual experiences intersect with relationships, communities, and broader social structures.
An open call for submissions is expected to begin in Japan during winter 2026, with detailed guidelines scheduled for announcement around December. UNIQLO also envisions expanding the creative program through partnerships with universities internationally.
