The original Freestyle holds an unusual place in sneaker history. Reebok identifies it as the first athletic shoe designed specifically for women’s fitness, and its slim leather construction helped carry it from workout studios into everyday fashion during the 1980s.
Rider first teased the collaboration during his Celine SS27 men’s debut in June. His update removes the familiar side Vector overlays and rebuilds the upper in supple lambskin, leaving a cleaner profile that sits somewhere between vintage fitness footwear and Celine’s own narrow-soled Jazz Shoes. Co-branding appears on the tongue and heel, while each pair comes with a limited-edition leather logo tab.
Eight monochromatic colourways push the Freestyle into Celine territory, spanning Optic White, Black, Butter and Beige through Peanut, Dark Brown, Oxblood and Fluo Red. New York’s Wooster Street boutique and Omotesando in Tokyo also receive regional exclusives.
Slim sneakers are moving back into fashion after years of bulkier proportions, but Rider has also selected an archive model with a specifically female origin story. A shoe once designed around women entering fitness culture now returns through a Paris luxury house more than four decades later.
That historical loop gives Celine x Reebok more substance than a logo swap: one of Reebok’s earliest women-first innovations has just been recast as a luxury object.
