Skincare has known glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acids for years. That familiarity creates a tougher assignment for brands in 2026. Putting “AHA” across a bottle hardly creates excitement on its own anymore. The new formulas have to give acids a better reason to exist, whether that means clearing breakout-prone skin with a gentler molecule, turning exfoliation into a 30-second foam, synchronising mandelic acid with the night, or translating decades of professional peel experience into something made for home.

AHA Is Not Hot Right Now, but It Still Works

Alpha hydroxy acids are water-soluble exfoliating acids that primarily work across the skin’s surface, helping loosen the bonds between accumulated dead cells so they shed more efficiently. The payoff can include smoother texture, greater radiance, clearer-looking pigmentation, and softer-looking fine lines.

Glycolic acid has the smallest molecular size among the common AHAs and penetrates rapidly, lactic acid brings useful humectant properties, and the larger mandelic molecule moves through skin more gradually. Clinical education platform Prodermic consequently describes lactic acid as especially useful for dry skin and mandelic acid as a lower-irritation option.

Dermatologist Dr. Dara Spearman recommends beginners start AHA around once or twice a week and build according to tolerance. A straightforward evening routine is enough: cleanse, apply the exfoliating treatment according to its instructions, then follow with hydration and moisturizer. Morning sunscreen deserves special attention because acids can increase photosensitivity.

Perhaps AHA’s lack of novelty is exactly what makes this year interesting. Brands have fewer opportunities to hide behind ingredient hype. The product itself has to be clever.

Mandelic acid gives Go Deep a sensible role for skin dealing with congestion, uneven texture and lingering post-breakout dullness while squalane helps keep the formula comfortable. Its business debut was considerably less gentle: Reale Actives reportedly generated $1 million in sales within five minutes of launch. That short contact time makes it particularly appealing for someone intrigued by exfoliation yet reluctant to sleep in a strong acid serum. Farmacy reports 93% brighter-looking skin after one use, 96% softer and smoother-feeling skin after one week and 100% visibly improved texture after one month. Even better for the facial-at-home fantasy, 90% agreed that one use produced results comparable to a facial.

RAESO Lunar Veil Chrono-Active Sleep Mask

Best for dry, dehydrated skin

RAESO apparently decided even AHA should know what time it is.

Its Lunar Veil mask uses time-release mandelic acid inside a cushiony overnight formula with ceramide, lipids and fermented ingredients. Founder Katey Mandy worked with Dr. Daniel B. Yarosh around skin’s circadian activity, designing the treatment around three overnight phases: receptivity, renewal and recovery.

RAESO places its “power hour” for penetration around 8 to 10 p.m., peak repair around 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., followed by recovery toward morning.

The French company was founded in 1978 around aesthetic medicine, so professional-peel inspiration comes naturally to the story. Filorga reports 43% smoother skin after the first application and 65% after 28 days, while 91% reported visibly diminished wrinkles within seven days. It is AHA behaving like a serious anti-aging treatment instead of a bottle of nostalgic acid toner.

AHA may have lost its status as beauty’s newest obsession, yet these launches make a convincing case for keeping it around. In 2026, the interesting part is watching brands find smarter ways to use it.
