Directed by Gordon von Steiner, the campaign places Cabello entirely in Tommy red as she performs her own interpretation of Queen’s I Want to Break Free. The choice makes the fragrance name unusually literal while connecting the launch to the brand’s broader message of confidence, authenticity and self-expression.
Perfumers Honorine Blanc and Alexandra Monet built Freedom around a clean amber direction Tommy Hilfiger had yet to explore. Lychee and dewy florals open the composition, magnolia forms its heart, and a smooth vanilla blue accord anchors the base. The triangular bottle also looks backward, pulling details from the house archive through a heavy glass base and monogrammed red cap.
Tommy Hilfiger has an extensive fragrance history, yet more than ten years have passed since its last completely new women’s scent. Freedom therefore has to do more than add another celebrity face to a campaign.
Camila Cabello gives the relaunch immediate cultural visibility, while the clean amber profile and archival bottle design balance newness with recognisable brand codes. The campaign effectively uses music, colour and celebrity to reopen a category that has gone relatively quiet.
For Tommy Hilfiger, Freedom signals a renewed beauty ambition; for Camila Cabello, it places fragrance at the centre of her latest fashion partnership.
