Cardi B sits inside a car while a narrator delivers the familiar advertising promise about people spending fortunes chasing perfect jeans. Then she calls cut.

Her complaint is wonderfully practical: how is anyone supposed to see how good the jeans look while she is sitting down? From there, Cardi B increasingly behaves like the unofficial creative director, interrupting takes, demanding better angles and turning the commercial into a running argument about whether the camera is giving the denim enough attention. The script eventually starts bending around her personality.

That self-awareness gives Old Navy something increasingly difficult to manufacture in celebrity campaigns: the sense that the celebrity has actually entered the advertisement instead of merely appearing inside it.

The Most Wanted Denim

The Most Wanted Denim cast extends beyond Cardi to Paloma Elsesser, Wisdom Kaye, Quenlin Blackwell, Brooks Nader and Haley Baylee. Shot on Paramount’s historic Stage 18, the campaign treats them like characters inside a larger cinematic chase, complete with Wild West references and the suggestion that jeans starting around $22 might be valuable enough to become contraband.

The collection introduces the Arc, a mid-rise jean with a rounded curved leg, alongside High-Rise Wide Leg, Baggy Barrel and Low-Rise Baggy silhouettes. The campaign lets those shapes earn their close-ups through movement, attitude and exaggerated posing instead of pausing the film for a catalogue moment.

Growing up in the Bronx, Cardi B remembered shopping at Old Navy with her family and later admitted that as a teenager she sometimes layered tights underneath skinny jeans because she wanted her legs and butt to appear fuller. Years later, she is fronting a denim campaign built almost entirely around curves and volume.

Some celebrity campaigns hire a famous face and hope charisma happens. This one hands Cardi B the imaginary director’s chair and lets the chaos sell the denim for them. If somebody on set was supposed to tell her to stick to the script, Old Navy was smart enough to keep them quiet.
