Hamilton Launched A Timepiece Born From Myth

Dubbed the watchmaker of filmmakers, Hamilton integrated their timepieces into more than 500 films and television productions, including three works by Christopher Nolan -Interstellar, Tenet, and Oppenheimer. Their fourth collaboration - this time in the film The Odyssey - marked a shift: inspired from an action epic set in the Bronze Age, Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey did not appear on the screen. Yet, the atmosphere and characteristics of this era are vividly reflected in every detail of this exceptional timepiece.

Developed based on Hamilton’s 42mm Khaki Field Automatic model, Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey evokes the mythical world of Odysseus through the bronze case, a material reminiscent of ancient weaponry and armor. Moreover, this material appeals to timepiece enthusiasts thanks to its ability to develop a unique patina, giving each piece an individual appearance over time. Alongside the bronze case, Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey features a circular brushed finish and a brown leather strap accented by a pronounced center stitch.

On the timepiece’s vertically brushed black surface, Hamilton and Nolan replaces conventional numerals and hour markers with a bronze-colored texture inspired by the helmet of Odysseus. They retain only a single marker at the 12 o'clock position, which is meticulously designed to mimic a rivet on the hero's sword scabbard. Echoing Odysseus’ blade are sword-shaped hour and minute hands, while the second hand features a pointed tip resembling a spearhead.

The case back of Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey - rendered in titanium - demonstrates Odysseus’ helmet alongside Christopher Nolan’s signature. This detail not only completes the timepiece’s aesthetic but also underscores the epic inspiration behind it.

Complementing the design inspired by ancient mythology are practical features, including hands coated with Superluminova Grade X1 that ensures excellent legibility in low-light conditions, a curved sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating and water resistance to a depth of 100 meters.

Not everyone can own a Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey, since Hamilton produced only 2,112 units of this edition. The number 12 is not chosen at random, it is widely used in Homer’s Odyssey: the poem has 12,000 lines, 12 ships were sent to Troy and Odysseus has to shoot an arrow through 12 axe heads to prove his identity. Accompanying the watch is a replica of the Athena brooch - the gift Penelope gave to Odysseus, which he wore as a talisman in the film. Everything is elegantly housed in black and bronze packaging, highlighted by a distinctive circular metal shield emblem.

Through Khaki Field Auto The Odyssey, Hamilton and Christopher Nolan create a rare intersection of myth, cinema and watchmaking. The timepiece, therefore, not only demonstrates exquisite craftsmanship but further embodies a part of a magnificent epic.
